Our Sumatran trading partners Permata Gayo produce an earthy, sweet cup of fair trade, organic coffee that's well-balanced with a smooth, medium body. We give this single-origin coffee a Viennese Roast (meaning “medium-dark”) that leaves the beans coated in a sheen of natural oils and then ship them out fresh to you. For lovers of dark coffees, we also make a sumptuous French Roast.

Coffee Profile

Permata Gayo represents farmers throughout the Aceh region of Indonesia's largest island, Sumatra. Depending on elevations ranging from 1,200 to 1,600 meters above sea level, Permata Gayo farmers produce a variety of Arabica varietals, including Bourbon, Tim Tim, Ateng, Super, and Catimor. With a long heritage of cultivating coffee, the native Gayonese have become known for a distinctive coffee characterized by a full, syrupy body, medium acidity, and earthy notes of green pepper, dark walnut, leather, and red fruits.


Since we first imported Permata Gayo coffee in 2009, Café Campesino has relied on its unique flavor profile for use in roasted blends and for single origin sale. Permata Gayo holds both Fair Trade and Organic certifications.

    • Aroma: Berry, sweet
    • Body: medium
    • Flavor: Stone fruit, sweet, light smoke
    • Acidity: low-medium
    • Notes: An earthy and fruity coffee

Very pleasant body, nice finish, low acidity.

This coffee makes my mornings so happy!

Strong flavor, no bitter aftertaste. Delicious. I rated it 4 of 5 only because I haven't compared it to any of the other coffees yet (it's just a world above the very sad coffee I had been drinking).
